FOR ERASMUS STUDENTS HIKING AT OLYMPUS AND VISIT OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF DION GRIDAY 12 JUNE 2020
The Physical Education Office of the University of Thessaly in Larissa (Gaiopolis) will organize for the erasmus students of the departments in Larissa a one-day training exercise (hiking) on Mount Olympus on Friday, June 12, 2020.
Students from other cities can also take part in the hike.
The bus will depart at 07:00 a.m. in front of the main entrance of the University of Thessaly in Larissa (Gaiopolis for those who live in Estia and Agios Thomas, for those who live in the center will pass at 7:15 by Agios Achilleios.
After two hours of travel we will reach Agios Dionysios from where we will start our hike crossing the gorge of Enipeas in about 4.30 hours with a finish in Litochoro. During the hike in the first two hours there will be a break for food and at regular intervals ten minutes of rest. Then after the hike we will visit the archeological site of Zeus to get to know the ancient culture of Greece. And one last surprise after visiting the Archaeological Museum of Dion we will go for a swim in the sea (Platamonas) for two hours, so you should have a swimsuit and towel with you.
What to have with me on a hike:
– Water (calculate how much you usually need and earn more).
– Something sweet and salty (these foods or drinks help to better retain fluids in the sun).
– Am I allergic or taking certain medications before exercising? I need to take my medication with me.
– Sunglasses.
– A bag to throw my trash in. No rubbish in nature!
– Allow me to have as little as possible in my bag, but not to hold anything in my hands. My hands can be very useful and I have to have them for free.
What to wear:
– My blouse should cover my shoulders.
– A thin blouse for warmth (for when we move forward) and thicker (for when we stop).
– Long pants.
– Clothes that allow any movement.
– 2 pairs of long socks.
– Closed shoes as stable as possible and with a more embossed sole.
– If it has sun, high protection sunscreen, Liposan for hat lips and neck scarf. Bag with clothes for change (2 t-shirts, socks, underwear, etc.).
Note: They will be given by the University of Baton for hiking that you will have to return after the end of the hike.

Attractions – Historical
The location of Prionia : Prionia is an area of high altitude , starting point of many climbing trips ( European Path E4 ) . The Monastery of St. Dionysius which was built at 1500 at 820 altitudes . The monastery was burned by Germans at 1943 . In addition to close to the monastery there are the river Enipeas . Through narrow passages of the lateral we can see the snowy peaks of Olympus . Enipeas is the river of Katerini which leaking Litochoro . The origin of its name is from some sea deity, father of Pelia and Nilea and wife of Tiris . It is intended to personify the Poseidon .
OLYMPUS : The highest mountain of Greece ( Mytikas 2918 meters ) .
This is the mountain in which was leaving the 12 gods of ancient Greeks . The first who conquered the summit of Olympus was 2 Switzerland climbers at 1913. At 1938 one part of Olympus declared as a national park and from 1981 was under the care of Unesco .
On top of Saint Anthony was found coins and pottery finds which ensure the exist of temple of Zeus .
